Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard 2017 (העתק)

750 ml.
15% vol.

The Wine

The 2018 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard presents intense aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, earth, pipe tobacco and cedar, with light notes of juniper.
This single-vineyard Cabernet is rich and ripe, displaying concentrated flavor with a lingering and tasty finish.

Though enjoyable to drink while young, the 2016 Yarden Cabernet Sauvignon Bar’on Vineyard will improve in the bottle for a number of years, and should remain in great drinking condition for a decade or more from vintage. A natural choice for festive meals, the wine pairs wonderfully with grilled porterhouse steaks, roasted rack of lamb, or a mature Gruyere.

The Vintage

The 2018 Yarden Merlot Yonatan Vineyard displays attractive notes of blackberry, blueberry and orange blossom, layered with earth, cocoa, tobacco, warm spice and French oak characters. This single-vineyard Merlot is full-bodied, rich and long, without being heavy.

While enjoyable to drink upon release, the 2015 Yarden Merlot Yonatan Vineyard will improve in the bottle in the coming years, and should stay in outstanding drinking condition for up to a decade or more from vintage. A great choice for celebrations, the wine goes wonderfully with free-range veal chops with sage and mushrooms, pan-seared duck breast with grilled figs, or Merlot coq au vin.

The Vintage

Though we had heavy rains in November, the winter saw only 75% of our normal precipitation. Following a cool spring, we headed into harvest 10-14 days later than usual. If in the past a cool spring normally meant a cool summer, this was not the case in 2017. Indeed, we recorded our warmest ever September, including a historic dust storm. We concluded the harvest on schedule, with our vineyards looking surprisingly verdant. Despite the unusual conditions in 2015, the Golan once again proved itself to be a phenomenal place to grow quality wine.

This Merlot is made from grapes harvested only from the Yonatan Vineyard, which is located in the central Golan Heights at an elevation of 700 meters (2,300 feet). This is the second-ever release of a single-vineyard Merlot from Yonatan Vineyard, which has produced outstanding fruit since first being planted in 1978. The wine aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.

The Appellation

The Galilee (or Galil) is the most northern, and generally considered the best, appellation in Israel. The highest quality area within the appellation is the Golan Heights (or simply the Golan), the coldest region in Israel. The vineyards on this volcanic plateau rise from 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) and receive snowfall in the winter.
