English pepper, also known as Jimka pepper, myrtle pepper or pimenta, is a spice created from the fruits of the Pimenta dioica tree, from the myrtle family.
The unripe fruits of the tree are used as a spice after being dried. The origin of allspice is in the Greater Antilles, southern Mexico and Central America. Today it is grown in many other areas with a warm climate.
The origin of the Hebrew name for allspice came from Russia with the first immigrants to Israel. In several European languages it is actually called "Jamaica pepper", due to its origins in the Jamaica region, and its great prosperity on this island in particular. After the English took over Jamaica in 1655, they increased the production quantities of the spice and began to export it in large quantities, and this is probably where its name comes from in Russia, which imported many spices from there.

In English it is called "Allspice" - a common name for this spice in several other European languages (in French, for example, it is called "tout-épice"). It seems that the English coined this nickname as early as 1621, when they thought that its taste combines the flavors of several spices - cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.

Culinary uses:

The allspice, which has a unique and earthy taste, goes well with pickling and pickling vegetables, great in a combination of casseroles containing meat and legumes. Very suitable for fish and vegetables in the oven.
It can be used as a whole spice or ground.

Allspice is the base spice for the beloved Bharat mixture.
Its unique aroma and deep taste emphasize the flavors of meat, mushrooms and root vegetables.
Combine allspice with beef meatballs, rice stew and mushroom douxelles.
